Welcome to the EFFICOMP website! Here you will find all the information about us and the research projects we are working on.
Who we are?
EFFICOMP is one of the research teams of the CASIP group (TIC117), which belongs to the Department of Computer Architecture and Technology of the University of Granada. The team consists mainly of researchers with a Ph.D. degree, professors, doctoral students, and technical support staff. You can find us at the address shown below, in the footer.
Research interests
The main topics are related to efficient computing in high-performance applications with energy-time constraints and the use of heterogeneous parallel architectures. Our motivation stems from the rapid development of digitalization as this is contributing to dramatically increase the ever-growing amount of data created in the world. As a consequence, today it is not possible to create applications capable of analyzing large datasets or high-dimensional data without the efficient use of parallel and distributed systems.
However, we believe that the most important factor to consider in the coming years is not performance, but energy consumption due to environmental reasons such as the problem of climate change and the increase in the world population. This scenario is creating the need to optimize the use of resources, especially energy consumption, not only in smaller and domestic devices but also in large supercomputers. For this reason, the EFFICOMP Team focuses on energy-aware computing, which is addressed through code optimization techniques, workload balancing strategies, heterogeneous and distributed parallelism, and the use of multi-objective evolutionary algorithms to find a trade-off between the time and energy requirements.
